GLOBAL CITIZEN EDUCATION SOLUTIONS helps schools and educators incorporate Global Citizenship Education (GCED) and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) into their programs of study to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and mindsets they require to thrive in our globalized world and face the challenges of the future.
With two decades of experience in education spanning three continents and diverse socio-economic settings, and several years academic research into development education and global learning, I have accumulated a wealth of knowledge and resources I can employ to build effective GCED/ESD programs.
According to UNESCO, Generations Z and Alpha will have to navigate a variety of challenges in their lifetimes. Many of these are not new problems for humanity but, as the world’s population approaches 8 billion people, additional unprecedented issues are increasingly impacting our lives today. To add to the challenge, many of these issues are considered controversial or politically divisive. The list below illustrates just some of these issues:
- global climate change
- pandemics, antibiotic resistance and vaccines
- humanitarian and refugee crises
- poverty, malnutrition and illiteracy
- discrimination and inequality
- radicalization and extremism
- aging populations and limited resources
- pollution and reduced biodiversity
- populist politics, social media, and fake news
- digital divide.
In recognition of these challenges, the United Nations has set the following target for all member nations to achieve:
By 2030, ensure that all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, including, among others, through education for sustainable development and sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, global citizenship and appreciation of cultural diversity and of culture’s contribution to sustainable development.
United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4.7
Solutions for providing GCED/ESD to today’s students are as varied, complex, and demanding as the issues the subject itself encompasses. GCED Solutions recognizes this and can offer tailored programs to suit your needs. Below are just a few examples of the services I can offer.
